Handmade Maroccan Berber rug Azilal blue lozenges

The Azilal rug combines irregular and abstract colored patterns with numerous Berbers graphic symbols lying on a cream background.Only performed by women of North-East Marrakesh region, Azilal rugs are made from virgin raw wool, by alternating composed patterns of one single knotted line and one or two woven lines. According to a cultural ritual, the techniques are passing from mothers down to daughters for generations. The decoration is woven with wool and cotton threads tainted with vegetable dye.
Fruits of weavers’ imagination and genuine works of art, Azilal rugs can also be used as wall decoration.
